poppy's place

Hello, my name's poppy. I live in the UK in an upstairs maisonette with two cats and a robot dog named Toby.

I'm a musician by training but a geek by trade. I studied for eight years as a junior at the Royal Academy of Music before going on to do a degree at Surrey, but it was while I was there that I first used a UNIX system and decided I didn't want to pursue music as a career. (More fool me.) These days I work for Siemens Business Services Internet Operations (formerly BBC Technology) as a UNIX Engineer. I'm lucky enough to be able to say that I love my job.

I'm a member of ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha and huge Beatles fan. I'm webmaster for the British Beatles Fan Club and am an occasional contributor to their quarterly magazine. I try to get to as many Bootleg Beatles concerts as I can. I still play my instruments (piano and flute) although mainly just for fun these days, and am learning guitar -- my favourite waste of time. I'm a vegetarian, an ego-warrior, a keen amateur-gardener and a crafter. I'm a daughter, a sister, an aunty, a godmother and a friend. I'm permanently sleep-deprived.

You might also like to take a look at the Acorn computer users' WWW pages (which are unfortunately in dire need of an update) or my collection of computer songs and poems (which don't rank much higher on the up-to-date scale).
